Anthony Joshua has weighed in on the upcoming heavyweight superfight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. After delivering a fifth-round stoppage in his most recent bout against Otto Wallin, AJ’s attention quickly shifted to the identity of his next opponent.
The two top heavyweights are scheduled to face off for the first time on February 17th, and Joshua, who has been beaten twice by Usyk, believes the Ukrainian will have the advantage.
Speaking to IFLTV, Joshua said: “I really want to be here for that fight. You’ve probably heard it a few times but I think Usyk is a phenomenal fighter and he’s got a great team around him. You’re only as good as you’re team and he’s got a really good team. Having been in the ring with him and studying him, I think he’s the one to edge it probably because of my experiences of his ring craft and I think it’s top tier.”
After the shock defeat of Deontay Wilder to Joseph Parker, Joshua’s next fight is likely to be against Filip Hrgovic. Despite Wilder’s loss, AJ believes the Bronze Bomber can still come back and they may eventually face off. “I heard that Deontay lost. So what? He’ll be back. Deontay, everything that he said about me, I could rip him apart right now, but I’m going to take the higher ground. You can come back. If he wanted to, he can come back. I’m sure everyone still wants to see that fight.”
