Sponsored Content | John Lowrie Morrison OBE, affectionately known as ‘Jolomo’, is a renowned contemporary artist from Scotland. He is set to unveil his latest collection of paintings at the Strathearn Gallery in Crieff. Titled "Morrison & The Sea - The Rocks - The Cliffs", this exhibition focuses on John's lifelong passion for the sea.

Even though John is known as a 'landscape' painter, he admits that his paintings always seem to feature the sea in some way. This theme is further explored in his new exhibition. The love for the sea runs in the Morrison family, with John's father being a fisherman in the Minch. Growing up, John would listen to his father's fascinating stories about Hebridean fishermen and it sparked a desire in him to live on Harris.

"As a young boy, I was captivated by these stories and always dreamt of living on Harris," says John. "This love for the sea has stayed with me throughout my life." John's connection to the sea is also evident in his family's history, as they recently discovered that his great grandfather was a lighthouse keeper in the 1800s. This is a significant building that John has been drawn to painting throughout his career, and it's no wonder that the sea feels like it runs in his blood.

John's iconic expressionist style of painting has been honed over 50 years of dedication to his craft. It allows him to capture and convey the emotions and essence of being by the coast. While John acknowledges that his classical training at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art sometimes pulls him towards realism, his paintings are known for their bold, vibrant colors. He uses bright blues, fiery oranges, and lush greens to evoke memories, emotions, and a deep connection between the viewer and his vision of Scotland's stunning beauty.

It's not just the colors that make John's paintings special, but also the story within each work. This is why his paintings are highly regarded, admired, and coveted by art lovers all over the world. "Morrison & The Sea - The Rocks - The Cliffs" will open at 10am on 4 May and will run until 2 June. The paintings will also be available for purchase online on the Strathearn Gallery website from 27 April at 10am. On the opening day, John will be at the gallery to talk about his work.

The Strathearn Gallery's hours are from Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, Saturday from 10am to 5.30pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm. You can find the gallery at 32 West High Street, Crieff, PH7 4DL.
