John's connection to the sea is also evident in his family's history, as they recently discovered that his great grandfather was a lighthouse keeper in the 1800s. This is a significant building that John has been drawn to painting throughout his career, and it's no wonder that the sea feels like it runs in his blood.

John's iconic expressionist style of painting has been honed over 50 years of dedication to his craft. It allows him to capture and convey the emotions and essence of being by the coast. While John acknowledges that his classical training at the prestigious Glasgow School of Art sometimes pulls him towards realism, his paintings are known for their bold, vibrant colors.
