Jeremy Clarkson is getting a very unique Christmas present from Peta this year. The Clarkson's Farm star was recently criticized by the animal rights organization for claiming that a 'clean, green' planet would be joyless.
In a recent column, the 63 year old said that to achieve a green planet people might have to 'live on pills made by AI machines in solar-powered factories' instead of food. He added, 'Who wants to live in a world without gravy?'
In response to his remarks, Peta has sent Jeremy a 'disturbing' picture book, titled The Secret Lives of Animals. At first glance, the book looks like it's for children, with its bright cartoon critters and nursery rhymes. However, upon closer inspection, it depicts shorn rabbits, lab mice being blinded by product testing, and a depressed dolphin trapped in a tank.
The rhymes in the book paint a horrifying picture. One of them reads: 'At around this time tomorrow/ You'll be skinned, then killed/ By humans who'll feel no sorrow/ For the blood you've spilled.' Another takes a spin on the Three Blind Mice nursery rhyme, saying 'this is their vile sacrifice/ The pain, stress and all the rest/ That goes with a product test.'
Peta's Vice President of Programmes Elisa Allen sent the book to Jeremy, with a letter that shared the 'shocking truths and inescapable logic'. She sarcastically said that it was 'simple' enough that 'even someone who...mourns the death of their family dog but calls vegans "lunatics" for caring about the mass slaughter of billions of chickens, pigs, and cows can understand the message.'
Elisa added that the book was sent to Jeremy in hopes that he would turn vegan, and that it might inspire him to include vegan options at the Diddly Squat Farm shop. She added that it might take a 'Christmas miracle' for Jeremy to 'admit he was wrong', but 'maybe this shocking stocking stuffer can help give him the push he needs towards animal- and eco-friendly foods in 2024.'
Peta has also been vocal about its opposition to the use of live animals in the popular show I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! Peta founder Ingrid Newkirk even declared that she would send the show a piece of her own rotting flesh in protest at their animal-eating trials. Ingrid said that the producers remind her of 'snickering schoolboys' and that 'there is no need for animals to needlessly die, or suffer. They should be ashamed.'
The Agency has contacted Jeremy Clarkson for comment.
