Kelsey Grammer couldn't contain his emotions as he opened up about returning as Dr. Frasier Crane, ahead of the reboot. The 68-year-old actor has played the stuffy psychiatrist since 1984, when he made his debut in Cheers and then landed his own spin-off in 1993.
Now, after three decades, the premiere of the Paramount+ revival is just around the corner, set to air on October 12th. To mark the occasion, a video obtained by People Magazine showed the actor addressing the live studio audience during filming.
Kelsey proudly told one lucky crowd: “I'm delighted you're here. I can't tell you how grateful I am that you're here, and how grateful we are that we have a chance to do this for you again. We've been working so hard at this thing and it's been quite a while, and I think we've done something quite lovely.”
The emotion was clearly evident in his voice as he continued to another audience: “My love for this character is very sweet. It's been such an incredible journey, to think that 20-some odd years later, we could do Frasier. What's shocking is he's just as fresh and alive as any regular human being would be. Give us your blessing and wait for us. Give us love, and we're going to give you love back.”
Kelsey will be joined by a mostly new cast for the revival, including Only Fools and Horses icon Nicholas Lyndhurst as his pal Alan, and Jack Cutmore-Scott as his son Freddy. Peri Gilpin and Bebe Neuwirth have both reprised their roles as Roz Doyle and Lilith Sternin respectively, but David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves will not be returning as Niles Crane and Daphne Moon.
The 10-episode series will begin with a double-bill next Thursday, with all new instalments dropping weekly on Thursdays. The official synopsis reads: “The new series follows Frasier Crane in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfill. 'Frasier has re-entered the building!'”
Don't miss the chance to see Kelsey Grammer reprise his beloved role when Frasier premieres on October 12th on Paramount+.
