Jay-Z said no to Ed Sheeran’s offer to rap on Shape Of You, suggesting the song was complete as it was.

Ed Sheeran was rejected by rapper Jay-Z after he asked him to contribute to hit song Shape Of You. Despite this, the song went on to become a massive success and earned Ed his third UK number one, where it remained for 14 weeks. Before its release, the song was initially intended to have a rap verse, with Ed hoping for Jay-Z to be featured. He sent him the song to consider, but was told in no uncertain terms that the song didn't need it, with Jay-Z telling Ed he was probably right.

When Ed Sheeran was creating his hit song Shape Of You, he had originally planned for a rap verse, so he wrote to Jay-Z asking him to collaborate on the track. Despite this, Jay-Z told him the song did not need a rap verse, and Ed has since admitted the music mogul was probably right in his advice.
