Jaipur: Three people were killed and 18 others injured when a Traveller van carrying devotees from Maharashtra crashed into a trailer truck on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway in Rajasthan’s Bagru area in the early hours of Saturday. According to police, the accident took place around 1:50 am while the van was coming down from the Bagru overpass. The vehicle was carrying 28 devotees from Nashik, Maharashtra, who were on their way from Jaipur to the Sanwaliya Seth temple in Chittorgarh.

Chandrabhan, Station House Officer of Bagru police station, said the van hit a trailer truck moving in front of it. Three passengers died on the spot, while 18 others were injured. The injured were rushed to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur for treatment, and one of them is said to be in critical condition.

Injured passengers claimed that the driver lost control of the van while trying to overtake the trailer truck. They also alleged that he had consumed alcohol before driving. Pravin, one of the injured passengers, said the group had left Jaipur around 10:30 pm on Friday.

“We had asked the driver not to drive at night, but he did not listen. He had also consumed alcohol,” he said. The van is believed to have gone out of control while descending from the Bagru overpass before crashing into the truck ahead.

Those seated in the front suffered the most severe injuries. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. However, the claim that the driver was under the influence of alcohol has not yet been independently verified.
