James Acaster recently shared a surprising fact during an interview with radio host Chris Moyles - he has been thinking about Moyles every time he goes to the bathroom for more than half of his life. But don't worry, there's a good reason behind it.
During his appearance on The Chris Moyles Show, James confessed, "I think of Chris every time I do a poo." Co-host Pippa Taylor responded with a laugh, saying, "Oh, now that's the ultimate compliment."
James went on to explain the reasoning behind his unusual habit, saying, "You used to, on a couple of occasions, you and the crew on [Chris' BBC Radio 1 Early Breakfast Show] went off on a tangent about the dilemma of going for a poo at a friend's house. And Chris' contribution to the riff would always be, you would say, 'put down some toilet paper to deaden the sound.'"
Chris chimed in with a memory of his own, saying, "That's right!" James continued, "And I was 14, so this was a new concept to me. You know, you don't do that when you're seven, do you put the toilet paper down to deaden the sound? So this was new. And I was like, 'That's a good idea, actually, because I'm 14 years old, I'm scared of going for poos in people's houses.'"
He went on to reveal that he has been following this advice from Chris ever since, saying, "So, I started doing it because Chris suggested it, and so every time I put toilet paper down to deaden the sound, I think of Chris. That's every time I do a poo. I'm 39 now. I was 14. Over half of my life, I thought of Chris Moyles every time I do a poo."
During the interview, James also credited Chris for influencing him in his professional life, saying, "I wouldn't be doing the podcast that I do, which is the main thing that keeps my lights on, if it wasn't for Chris Moyles. That is a true thing."
He went on to explain that as a teenager, he listened to Chris' show every day after school and even recorded his own version of the show with his siblings. James said, "I dread to think where those tapes are now, because it's me trying to be funny at 14."
He added, "And there's still times now when I'm doing the Off Menu podcast with Ed [Gamble] where I think, 'I can't believe I get to be Chris Moyles. I can't believe this is it.' So, yeah, I'm pretty excited to be here. It's quite surreal."
