India has urged Iran to refrain from attacking commercial ships and seafarers, regardless of the circumstances. This message was strongly conveyed by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during a recent phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi. In his social media post, Jaishankar expressed India's deep concerns about the ongoing hostilities in the region and emphasized the importance of avoiding attacks on commercial vessels and seafarers.

He also made it clear that India condemns any party involved in such attacks. During the conversation, Jaishankar was informed about Iran's perspective on current developments and ongoing discussions. He reaffirmed India's stance of always promoting dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts.

This conversation between the two foreign ministers comes at a time of increased tensions between Iran and the US. India has been closely monitoring the situation in the region, especially the attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, informed Rajya Sabha that since February, 16 Indian nationals, including 10 seafarers, have lost their lives and 75 have been injured in the West Asia conflict.

Singh also mentioned a separate incident in which 12 Indian nationals lost their lives in an explosion at an energy complex in Qatar. India's concerns about the safety of its citizens in the Middle East have been ongoing since the conflict began in 2026. Singh's statement in response to a question further highlights the seriousness of the situation.
