IYC workers arrested for shirtless protest sent to five-day police custody by court.

In New Delhi, a Delhi court made a decision on Saturday regarding the four Indian Youth Congress workers who were arrested for participating in a protest at the AI Impact Summit venue just a day ago. They have been sent to five-day police custody as requested by the Delhi Police, according to Judicial Magistrate Ravi. The police had sought five days of custodial interrogation for the accused individuals and the court allowed it. We are still waiting for a detailed order to be released. The four arrested protesters were identified as Krishna Hari, national secretary of Youth Congress from Bihar; Kundan Yadav, IYC state secretary, Bihar; Ajay Kumar, IYC state president, Uttar Pradesh; and Narasimha Yadav from Telangana. During the hearing, the Delhi Police argued that the arrested individuals had raised anti-national slogans and were wearing T-shirts with objectionable images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the event venue. They also stated that the accused persons' mobile phones needed to be recovered and since they were from different states, custodial interrogation was necessary. The police counsel emphasized the seriousness of the matter, stating that an attempt was made to stop the police and three personnel were injured as a result. They also mentioned the need to investigate the conspiracy behind organizing the protest, the source of funding, and where the T-shirts were printed. On the other hand, the counsel representing the arrested protesters argued that they were associated with a political party and had exercised their democratic right to protest peacefully. The advocate further claimed that their arrest was an attack on the dignity of democracy and questioned why MPs protesting in Parliament were not also arrested. The news was reported by PTI and Orissa POST, the leading English daily in Odisha.
