2026 marks a special day for recognizing the achievements of Black executives in both the corporate world and public institutions. These individuals have not only transformed the landscape of their respective organizations, but have also made significant contributions to the overall economy and communities they serve. Their leadership has driven inclusive economic growth in urban areas and propelled major enterprise revenue from their positions in Fortune 500 companies. One such outstanding leader is Marvin R. Ellison, who has been at the helm of Lowe's as CEO, president, and chairman since 2018. Under his guidance, Lowe's, a leading home improvement company, reached a staggering $84 billion in revenue in 2024. Making history as the first Black CEO to lead two different Fortune 500 companies, Ellison has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the corporate world. Thasunda Brown Duckett, the CEO of Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA), is another pioneering figure in the financial services industry. Since 2021, she has been at the helm of TIAA's New York headquarters, driving the company towards success. Christopher C. Womack, CEO of Southern Company, is a well-known leader in the energy sector. Operating out of Atlanta, Georgia, Southern Company is one of the largest Fortune 500 energy utilities, serving the Southeastern region of the United States. Womack's leadership since 2023 has solidified Southern Company's position as a major player in shaping environmental policy and directing infrastructure. Leading the charge in the power generation and utility services sector is Calvin Butler Jr., the president and CEO of Exelon Corporation since 2023. His contributions have not only strengthened Exelon's presence across multiple states but have also played a significant role in shaping the industry. In Baltimore, Maryland, Otis Rolley is spearheading economic development as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Baltimore Development Corporation. Taking on this role in June 2025, Rolley has been instrumental in driving growth and progress in the city. At QVC Group, David L. Rawlinson II serves as the CEO, overseeing the popular retail channels QVC and HSN. Taking on the CEO role in 2021, Rawlinson has successfully navigated the company through the ever-changing landscape of the retail industry. René F. Jones has made significant contributions to the banking industry as the chairman and CEO of M&T Bank since 2017. His leadership has propelled the bank towards success and established it as a major player in the financial sector. In 2023, David P. Bozeman took on the role of CEO at C.H. Robinson Worldwide, a leading supply chain company. His leadership has been crucial in guiding the company through the challenges posed by the COVID pandemic. The 2026 National Leadership Day also coincides with the Women of Power Summit, where renowned speaker Benaree Pratt Wiley will share her insights on power, policy, and the boardroom.
