Is Forza Horizon 6 the game of the year? That's the question being discussed on the Tuesday letters page, where a hopeful theory about the new Kingdom Come game is also being shared. One reader is worried about what Epic isn't saying about Unreal Engine 6, and the Games Inbox section is filled with letters, comments, and opinions from our readers.
Over the weekend, a reader wrote a fantastic piece about Forza Horizon 6 that I completely agree with. They pointed out that Xbox failed to nurture their existing franchises and didn't create enough new ones. For years, it was clear that Halo was struggling against Call of Duty, and Gears of War lost its appeal after the third installment.
While it's natural for things to change and evolve, Xbox seemed to have focused on small indie games with limited mass appeal instead of developing a range of mainstream titles like Forza Horizon. It may be a little late now, but as the reader suggested, Fable might be the next big hit for Xbox. However, for me, Forza Horizon 6 is definitely the game of the year so far, and I'm curious to see if it will maintain its position.
The recent reveal of Unreal Engine 6 was quite strange. After seeing all the impressive tech demos over the years, the demonstration for the next-gen engine was underwhelming. It was essentially a slightly upgraded version of Rocket League with better-looking grass.
If this is any indication of what we can expect from the new consoles in terms of graphics, then I'm not sure what to think. I'm relieved that there was no mention of AI in the presentation, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it's because they're not ready to talk about it yet. I fear that the floodgates of AI will open soon, and no one wants to be the first to take the plunge.
My bet is that Microsoft will be the first, but even they seem hesitant to reveal anything at the moment. I find it hard to believe that Take-Two will release as many games as they claim. However, I hope they do because they have the potential to be a major player in the industry.
While Rockstar is enough to keep them afloat, they have the resources to develop more games. They have announced three new IPs in the next few years, along with numerous sequels and remakes. I'm not very hopeful at the moment, especially since they've made similar promises in the past, and nothing has come of it.
I'm surprised by the success of Red Dead Redemption 2. It's an incredible game, and it's no wonder it's the third best-selling game of all time. However, it's not a game that's easily accessible due to its length and mature themes.
It also requires a certain level of commitment, and some players may not appreciate it at first. But, once you give it a chance, it's a masterpiece. It's interesting to see how well it continues to sell, despite mixed opinions from players.
I've been playing Lego Batman with my son over the weekend, and it's been a blast. While he may not understand all the jokes, he loves playing with his dad and smashing things to collect Lego studs. The success of these games is not only due to their co-op feature and cute graphics, but also because they have something for adults.
My son hasn't seen any Batman films besides the cartoons, let alone American Psycho, but I enjoyed the visual gag and had a good laugh about it. I hope the next game comes out soon. I highly doubt that the new Kingdom Come game is Deliverance 3.
The developers have hinted at a new game, and they already have their hands full with the Lord of the Rings game. However, I'm intrigued to see what they come up with. It'll be a challenge to create a good and unique game in a short period, but I'm curious to see if they'll use the same map and assets from Deliverance 2.
It could be a trend for more games to do the same, and I wonder why it hasn't been done more in this generation. The idea has been around since Zelda: Majora's Mask, so I don't understand what's taking so long. I wish Bloober Team luck with their plan to make the Switch a haven for horror games, but I don't see it happening.
While the Switch does have horror games, I don't think many people buy them on that platform. It's just not what the console is known for. Additionally, while I'm looking forward to their remake of Silent Hill, I'm not convinced that they can create anything good that isn't related to the franchise.
I'm curious to see what they have in store, but I'll need more convincing before I'm on board. Is Forza Horizon 6 the game of the year? The Tuesday letters page has an interesting theory about the new Kingdom Come game, as a reader expresses concerns about what Epic isn't revealing about Unreal Engine 6.

In a recent Reader's Feature over the weekend, one of our readers wrote about Forza Horizon 6, and I couldn't agree more with their points.
The issue with Xbox is that they not only failed to nurture their existing franchises, but they also didn't introduce enough new ones. It was clear for a while that Halo was struggling to compete with Call of Duty, and Gears of War hasn't been a popular title since its third installment. Of course, this is nothing out of the ordinary, as nothing remains popular forever.
However, the success of Forza Horizon seemed to happen by chance and had little to do with Xbox. Instead, they focused on smaller indie games and titles that lacked mass appeal. They needed more games like Forza Horizon, with a mainstream concept executed flawlessly and with no equivalent on PlayStation.
It may be a bit too late now, but as the reader mentioned, Fable might surprise us as well. In my opinion, Forza Horizon 6 is definitely the game of the year so far, and I'm curious to see if it will maintain its position. That reveal of Unreal Engine 6 was certainly unexpected.
Throughout the years, we've seen amazing tech demos, but the one for the next-gen engine was just Rocket League with slightly better graphics. If this is any indication of the future, it's safe to say that the new consoles won't have significantly better graphics. I'm grateful that there were no signs of AI nonsense, but I can't help but worry that Microsoft is keeping quiet about it for a reason.
I have a feeling that the floodgates for AI will open soon, but no one wants to be the first to take the plunge. Although I'm willing to bet that Microsoft will be the first to do so, even they seem hesitant to talk about it at the moment. I find it hard to believe that Take-Two will release as many games as they claim.
However, I do hope it's true because they have the potential to be a much bigger player in the gaming industry. I know that Rockstar alone is enough to keep them relevant, but they could easily release more games than they currently do. Three new IPs in the next few years?
Along with all the sequels and remakes? It sounds too good to be true, especially since their current schedule is empty. I have a feeling it will just be more NBA and wrestling games, as they've claimed similar things before with no results.
I must admit that I'm surprised by the success of Red Dead Redemption 2. Don't get me wrong, I think it's an incredible game and definitely deserves its spot as the third best-selling game of all time. But considering its length and mature themes, I didn't expect it to sell as well as it has.
It's not exactly a game that's easily accessible to younger players, and it requires a certain level of dedication. It took me a while to get into it, but once I did, I realized it was a masterpiece. However, from what I've seen online, opinions are divided, so it's quite impressive to see how well it's selling and continues to sell.
I spent the weekend playing Lego Batman with my son, and it was a blast. He may not have understood all the jokes, but he enjoys playing with his dad and breaking things to collect Lego studs. The success of these games isn't just because of their co-op and cute graphics, but also because there's something for adults as well.
My son hasn't seen any Batman movies that aren't animated, and he definitely hasn't seen American Psycho, but I got the visual gag and had a good laugh about it. Well done to the developers, and I hope the next one doesn't take too long to come out. I highly doubt that the new Kingdom Come game is Deliverance 3.
Just by the way they're talking about it, it's clear that they can't handle two big games at the same time, especially with Lord of the Rings also in the works. However, I am intrigued to see what the game will be like. Not only because I enjoyed the previous games, but also because it will be interesting to see if they can create a good and unique game in such a short period of time.
I assume they will be using the map from Deliverance 2 and other assets, which is something we don't see often in the gaming industry. This whole generation, we've heard complaints about how long it takes to make games, yet no one seems to be doing anything about it. Maybe Warhorse can show that using existing assets to make a different game can work, and it could become a trend.
Instead of creating multiple games in a franchise each generation, why not make one game and then spin-offs from there? Zelda: Majora's Mask did it, so it's not a new concept. I wonder what's taking so long for other developers to adopt it.
I wish Bloober Team the best of luck in making the Switch the go-to console for horror games, but I don't see it happening. The Switch does have horror games, but it doesn't seem like many people are buying them. It's just not the console people associate with horror games.
However, I've never seen Bloober Team create anything worthwhile that isn't related to Silent Hill. So while I'm looking forward to the remake of the first game, I need more convincing about their other projects, whether they're on Switch or not.
