On Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made an appeal to Pakistan, urging them to continue utilizing their positive influence to aid in de-escalating the ongoing tensions and to support efforts in maintaining the ceasefire. According to a statement released by the Foreign Office, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had a conversation with Araghchi to discuss the current regional situation and topics of mutual interest. During the conversation, Araghchi expressed his deep concern regarding recent events in the region, including Israel's violations of the ceasefire in Lebanon and their plans to potentially attack Beirut's southern suburbs.
He also took the opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate Pakistan's constructive role in regional diplomacy and requested their continued support in helping to de-escalate the situation and uphold the ceasefire. Dar, on the other hand, conveyed Pakistan's serious concerns and emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in order to avoid any further breakdown of the existing agreements. Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact, as the peace process has come under strain due to the ceasefire violations between the US and Iran, as well as Israel's attacks on Lebanon in defiance of the ceasefire.
Pakistan has been actively trying to mediate and end the conflict that began on February 28th, when the US and Israel launched attacks against Iran. Earlier, Araghchi had also stressed that the ceasefire agreement between Iran and the US covers all fronts, including Lebanon. He warned that any violation on one front would be considered a breach of the broader ceasefire arrangement.
Araghchi took to social media platform X to state, "For immediate attention: The ceasefire between Iran and the US applies to all fronts, including Lebanon." This statement highlights the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for all parties involved to adhere to the ceasefire agreement. In other news, Odisha's No.1 English daily, Orissa POST, has reported on these recent developments. It is clear that this issue has the attention of not just regional leaders, but also the media.
Let us hope that all parties involved can come to a peaceful resolution and maintain the ceasefire to prevent any further escalations.
