It's been quite some time now since we last caught a glimpse of his face. The mastermind behind Marvel's Spider-Man has been making waves with the news that they are preparing to reveal their highly anticipated Wolverine game. Rumors suggest that the big reveal may happen as soon as this week.
The game was initially announced by Insomniac back in September of 2021 through a short teaser trailer, but since then, there has been little to no information about the project. Apart from the initial announcement, all we have been getting are leaks and news from last year's hacking incident. Apparently, stolen documents revealed that the game would be released in 2026, following a Venom half-sequel for Spider-Man 2 next year. However, it's uncertain if this schedule is still accurate or if it has changed since then. What we do know is that Insomniac is planning to give us a glimpse of Wolverine before the year ends.
According to Kurakasis, a well-known video game insider and dataminer, Sony is gearing up to showcase Marvel's Wolverine in some capacity. There's speculation that it may happen either at The Game Awards or at a super-secret event later this year. While The Game Awards in December seems like the most likely option, there's also a Marvel Games panel happening at New York Comic-Con today at 4:45pm ET, or 9:45pm BST in the UK. Taking note of this, Kurakasis, who has a solid track record for gaming leaks, added, "Yeah, I think we should keep that event in mind too."
After doing some digging, it seems that Sony is indeed preparing to reveal something new about Marvel's Wolverine. It's hard to pinpoint when exactly it will happen, but my guess is that it will be sometime this year. It could be at The Game Awards or some other unannounced, super-secret event. Insomniac also made an appearance at last year's New York Comic-Con, where they unveiled several new suits for Spider-Man 2 before its release later that month. So, it's highly likely that they will make an appearance again this year. The Marvel Games panel is expected to last for 30 minutes, but we know that there are many other Marvel games in development besides Wolverine. Marvel Rivals will most likely be showcased before its release on December 6, and there's also Marvel's Blade, a new Iron Man game from EA, a standalone Black Panther title, and Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra.
However, we've known about Marvel's Wolverine for much longer than most of these games, so it's safe to assume that it's further along in development. If it doesn't make an appearance at Comic-Con, then we can expect to see more of it at The Game Awards on December 12. Of course, there's always a possibility that Sony may hold a State Of Play event before then. But based on their track record in the past couple of years, they haven't hosted any showcases after September, so Geoff Keighley's event is probably a safer bet.
Insomniac's Wolverine will be their first Marvel game outside of the Spider-Man universe and is expected to take place in the same world. The studio's previous game, Spider-Man 2, was a massive success last year. So, it's no surprise that fans are eagerly awaiting any news about their next project.
