James Carroll, 36, has put crime behind him and has been sentenced to six years in prison for his offences

James Carroll, 36, from Oldham in Greater Manchester, was caught for supplying more than 11 kilograms of cocaine, in deals which raked in about £674,000. The police were able to link Carroll to the drug deals after finding a photo of his driving licence on an encrypted chat network used by criminals.

Manchester Crown Court heard how detectives combed through messages discussing the collection and delivery of drugs, cash and, at one point, a Glock pistol.

Carroll had also sent pictures of his flat, referenced a car he had used and ordered food to his home.

After leaving crime and prior to his arrest, Carroll had found a job on the railways

The court heard that Carroll had put crime behind him by the time he was arrested and had found a job working on the railways. His barrister Katherine Pierpoint argued that he was capable of living a law-abiding life.

Carroll was handed a 12-year sentence, but will only serve six years behind bars for his offences.
