Indore has become the first city in India to have an operational electricity grid managed by RDSS.
Indore has made history with the launch of the country's first 33/11 KV Power Grid under the centrally-funded Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). This grid has been made operational in Imlikheda in Sanwer Tehsil of Indore district, bringing in the prospects of uninterrupted electricity to nearly 25,000 people living in five villages.

The Bhumi Pujan for this grid was performed in February this year, and the GIS survey was used to complete the construction work of the grid in a period of 5 months and at a cost of Rs. 3 crore. The 5 MVA capacity grid is equipped with electrical equipment materials such as power transformers, VCB, cables, and conductors which have been tested at the NABL Lab.

This is also the first time that the Panther conductor is being used in the grid, which has a double capacity than that of the standard conductor. The Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar, Water Resources Minister Tulsiram Silawat, Principal Secretary Sanjay Dubey, and Indore MP Shankar Lalwani have congratulated the West Discom for this achievement.

A total of 97 grids and related lines are being built under the RDSS project in the company area at a cost of Rs. 380 crore. This will increase the power distribution capacity of the company area by 500 MVA. The projects under RDSS are being monitored every week to ensure that the work is done on time and with quality.

Also, orders have been given for water harvesting near the grids so that the boring of the grid continues even in the summers with no water crisis for earthing in the grid. As of now, all the grids of the RDSS project are expected to be operational in August this year.
