The Indore Development Authority (IDA) has started work on solving the two-decade-old problem of water logging in the basement of the Government Cancer Hospital. A tender of Rs 85 Lakhs has been floated for this work and the officials have claimed that the work will be completed within six months.
IDA CEO RP Ahirwar spoke to media persons and stated that the source of the leakage is due to the water flow from the well located on the left side of the hospital. This well was closed down in 1998 and the IDA plans to rejuvenate it and make it an active water source. The plan includes construction of a wall in the basement to stop the leakage, waterproofing and concrete filling of the basement, and waterproofing of the walls.
The IDA also plans to install an underground water tank and an alarm system to alert officials if the tank is full. This joint team of IDA, IMC, SGSITS, and PIU-PWD have conducted a drive to understand the cause of the leakage issue in the hospital's basement. The renovation work includes strengthening the basement, preparing the boundary wall, and other works.
Superintendent of Cancer Hospital Dr Ramesh Arya has confirmed that the work has already begun. He believes that the hospital will be rid of the problem soon. The basement of the hospital had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, raising the risk of vector-borne diseases for visitors and patients. Despite spending over Rs 40 Lakhs in the last few years, the hospital could not get rid of this issue.
The joint team of IDA, SGSITS, IMC are now working together to strengthen the damaged pillars in the basement of the Cancer Hospital. With the help of this team, the hospital is now one step closer to solving this long-standing problem.
