The news of Linda's departure from Walford has barely settled in when another bombshell is dropped - her son Johnny will also be leaving the Square. Fans of EastEnders will recall Johnny's return three years ago, played by actor Charlie, and his involvement in some major storylines, including helping his mother cover up her murder of Keanu Taylor in the intense "Six" saga. He stood by his mother as she struggled with her addiction, and was also caught up in the aftermath of the murder cover-up.
In more recent times, Johnny has been romantically involved with Callum Highway, all while juggling the launch of his own law firm in the Square. But now, after 13 years since his initial debut, Johnny will be saying goodbye to Walford for the third time. This time, however, it holds more significance as it marks the end of an era.
Once Johnny and Linda leave, there will officially be no more Carters on the Square. An EastEnders spokesperson confirmed the news, wishing Charlie all the best for the future. According to The Sun, who first reported the news, Charlie was aware that his departure would follow after his co-star Kellie's decision to leave the show.
As fans may recall, Kellie has played Linda for 13 years and has decided to step away from the role. The Carters have been a staple of EastEnders since 2006 when Shirley first arrived in Walford. However, it wasn't until 2013 when Linda, her husband Mick, and their children joined the clan, that they became one of the most iconic families on Albert Square.
For a decade, the Carters resided in the Queen Vic and were often at the center of major storylines. In 2022, fans were left heartbroken when Mick disappeared at sea, and soon after, Shirley also departed from Walford. Now, with Linda's upcoming exit, it truly feels like the end of an era for the Carter family.
But before Charlie took over the role, Johnny had already made two appearances, played by Sam Strike and Ted Reilly. One of the most powerful and talked about moments in EastEnders history was when Johnny came out to his father Mick, setting the stage for many more groundbreaking storylines with the Carters leading the show. It's a sad goodbye for fans, but we can't wait to see what the future holds for Charlie and the rest of the Carter family.
