Holly Willoughby and Dermot O’Leary paid an emotional tribute to the late This Morning star Matty Lock on Monday. Matty, a politician, campaigner and much loved member of the show, tragically passed away at the age of 19.
At the start of the episode, the presenting duo took a moment to remember Matty, who had appeared on the show to share his passion for vacuum cleaners. He had received his first toy Henry Hoover when he was two years old.
“He was a much loved member of our team who never failed to bring joy and warmth to our studio,” Holly said. “With an infectious passion for gadgets and technology, it was truly unique.”
Dermot added, “Bless him, his love of vacuum cleaners started when he was just two years old, he received his first toy Henry. He went onto become a politician, a campaigner and a much loved member of the show. He was a lovely guy.”
The official This Morning page posted on social media that the team was ‘shocked’ by the sudden death. They shared a photo of Matty on the programme, alongside the dates 2004-2023, with a heartfelt message.
“Everyone at This Morning is shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Matty Lock, aged just 19. He was a delightful young man, a joy to work with and his passion for vacuum cleaners and general mechanics was infectious. His family came to the studio and they were so proud that he’d turned a childhood hobby into a career. We will miss him and send our condolences to his family.”
Holly also shared her sadness on Instagram, “So shocked and saddened to hear the news today. Matty was a wonderful person with a true passion for what he did… my love goes out to his friends and family at what must be a very difficult time.”
Dermot wrote, “Awful news. What a lovely guy. X” Fellow This Morning presenter Craig Doyle added, “Ah no, what a lovely young man, this is such tragic news. Rest in Peace Matty.”
