Heat health warnings issued as temps reach 32°C.
It seems like England and Wales are making one final attempt at summer this week. Temperatures are set to soar as the UK Health Security Agency has issued heat health alerts across most of England. The Met Office is predicting temperatures could reach up to 32°C on Wednesday and Thursday while Monday saw temperatures of 30°C recorded across southern England and south-east Wales.

The warning covers a large area, including London, the south east, the south west, the east and west midlands, the east, the north west, and Yorkshire and Humber. High temperatures will also be felt in Wales, and parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland will experience unseasonably high temperatures.

Met Office spokesman Oli Claydon said: “We will see good sunny conditions through the week with cloudless skies, and some high temperatures by the time we get to Wednesday and Thursday, where we could see 31, maybe 32°C.” Wednesday night could be particularly warm, with temperatures potentially not dropping below 20°C which is considered a ‘tropical night’.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mark Sidaway added: “High pressure is situated to the southeast of the UK, which is bringing more settled conditions with temperatures on the rise through the first half of this week. An active tropical cyclone season in the North Atlantic is helping to amplify the pattern across the North Atlantic, and has pushed the jet stream well to the north of the UK, allowing some very warm air to be drawn north. It’s a marked contrast to the much of meteorological summer, when the UK was on the northern side of the jet stream with cooler air and more unsettled weather.”

Friday could see temperatures hitting 31°C again, although there could be more cloudy weather and chances of rain in the far north-west of Scotland. So those of us in England and Wales should make the most of the good weather while we can as the heatwave conditions won’t be here for much longer. It’s important to remember the yellow heat warning in place too, and take extra care if you’re elderly or have pre-existing health conditions.
