Has the PS5 failed after five years? That's the question being asked in this edition of the Games Inbox.
Time flies when you're feeling let down. It's surprising how quickly the days pass when you're not enjoying yourself. This sentiment rings true for many fans who have given up on Xbox, as they express their disappointment in the Wednesday letters page. On the other hand, one reader is pleasantly surprised by the deals for the Nintendo Switch on Amazon.

It seems that old age is creeping up on us as we realize that this Christmas will mark the fifth year since the release of the PlayStation 5. It's crazy how time flies, but it's also the point where a console starts to show its age and rumors of a successor begin to circulate. And let's face it, those rumors are definitely swirling around now.

But this is also the time when we see the best quality games and graphics on a console. However, this year has been a bit underwhelming in terms of first party games, with only Death Stranding 2 and Ghost Of Yōtei to show for it. While Ghost Of Yōtei does have impressive graphics, it's hard not to feel disappointed with the PlayStation 5. Especially when you compare it to the PlayStation 4 and its impressive lineup. It's hard not to see it as a failure.

Despite this, I am excited for the release of the PlayStation 6. However, I do hope that I can trade in my current console and get the new one at a reasonable price. After this generation, I no longer have the confidence that a new PlayStation console is automatically worth the money.

I was pleasantly surprised to see some discounts on Switch games in the Amazon sale. It's rare to see any kind of deal for Nintendo products, especially since the Switch 2 is backwards compatible. I'm curious to see what happens on Black Friday, but I doubt it will go much cheaper than this. I'll take what I can get though, it's better than nothing.

I do wonder what will happen to Nintendo now that it's no longer the cheap choice. I feel like the affordability played a big role in parents choosing the Switch as a console for their kids. While it's still cheaper than PlayStation and Xbox, the games are either the same price or even more expensive. Mario Kart World definitely offers good value for money, but I have my doubts about some of the other games. Will I still be playing Donkey Kong Bananza in eight years' time? For the price, it should definitely have lasting appeal.

I found the story about the foxes in Silent Hill f and Ghost Of Yōtei quite amusing. It's strange that two games with such similar themes would release at the same time, but I guess it's like the Armageddon/Deep Impact phenomenon in movies. I haven't played Ghost Of Yōtei yet, but I have played Silent Hill f and woof... there's going to be a lot of changing opinions about Fox Mask from people who bought it because of him. What I love about the game is that there's room for interpretation and nuance in everything that's going on. It's definitely on track to be my game of the year, and I haven't even unlocked all the endings yet. I'm saving at least one for Halloween.

I'm not sure what the new Nintendo trailer is teasing, but my guess is Pikmin 5. It's not a guarantee, which is refreshing for Nintendo. This teaser is way more interesting than the one for Splatoon Raiders. I don't know how important Pikmin lore is to anyone, but if the AR game says they're invisible, that's as good an excuse as any. Although that doesn't explain the other weird animals. Maybe they're also invisible, or maybe it's not even Earth at all, but rather a similar planet or colony.

I think the reason humans haven't been in the game before is simply because of technology limitations. The other games couldn't handle an enemy that big, but now's their chance. I'm excited for it, more than I would be for Nintenbabies.

Little Nightmares 3 is set to release in a few days, but I can't find any reviews for it anywhere. I'm not sure what that says about the game's quality. The series has become one of my favorites in recent years, thanks to its grotesque monsters, unsettling atmosphere, and relatable but silent protagonists. This time, it's a different developer, so I'm not sure how closely they can match Tarsier Studios' unique vision. Will GameCentral be reviewing it? At least there's Tarsier's scary-looking Reanimal coming soon.

I feel like the controversy surrounding Game Pass is blown out of proportion. I only use it for online multiplayer, as I don't have time for the games. I prefer to buy and own my games when I want them. However, I do think you get a lot for the price. As an Xbox Series X owner, I'm content with what's provided. I have no issues with the brand, and people may call me naive or a fanboy, but I truly believe that Xbox has brought a lot to gaming. Their pros outweigh the negatives. I can't imagine a console market dominated by PlayStation, or even worse, a company like Apple taking Microsoft's spot.

Despite all the noise on the internet and opinions from YouTubers, I try to shut myself off from it all. I'm invested in the Xbox ecosystem and enjoy the deals on the Xbox store. As long as the Xbox Series X is fully supported, I have no complaints.
As we get older, time seems to fly by faster than ever before. It's almost like time speeds up when we least expect it. I was reminded of this recently when I read some letters from fellow gamers who have been disappointed with their Xbox experiences. It seems like more and more fans are giving up on the console. On the other hand, there are also some readers who are pleasantly surprised by the deals they found for the Nintendo Switch on Amazon.

As the holiday season approaches, I can't help but realize that it will be the fifth Christmas for the PlayStation 5. Time certainly flies, and it's around this time that a console starts to feel old and rumors about its successor start to spread. And let's be real, we're already starting to hear about the PlayStation 6. But despite this, it's also the time when the games and graphics reach their peak quality. Yet, this year, all we've had in terms of first-party games are Death Stranding 2 and Ghost Of Yōtei. And to be honest, they're just...fine.

Don't get me wrong, Ghost Of Yōtei has some impressive graphics, but it's hard not to feel disappointed with the PlayStation 5. When I compare its lineup to the PlayStation 4, it's hard not to see it as a failure. And while I'm excited for the PlayStation 6, I hope I can trade in my current console for a reasonable price. After this generation, I no longer have confidence that a new PlayStation is automatically worth the money.

I was pleasantly surprised to see some discounts on Switch games in the Amazon sale. Especially since the Switch 2 is backwards compatible. I'm curious to see what will happen on Black Friday, but I doubt it will ever be significantly cheaper. Nonetheless, any discount is better than nothing.

I do wonder what this means for Nintendo now that it's no longer the cheap option. It used to be the go-to console for parents, but now it's only slightly cheaper than PlayStation and Xbox. And to my surprise, some games are even more expensive. While I have no doubt that Mario Kart World offers good value for money, I'm not too sure about some of the others. Will Donkey Kong Bananza still be a game I'll be playing in eight years' time? For the price, it should be.

I found it quite amusing to read about the similarities between the foxes in Silent Hill f and Ghost Of Yōtei. It's strange that two games with so much in common were released at the same time. It's almost like the Armageddon/Deep Impact phenomenon, but in the gaming world. I haven't played Ghost Of Yōtei yet, but I have played Silent Hill f and woof...it's definitely going to change some opinions about Fox Mask for people who bought it because of him. But what I love about the game is that there's room for interpretation and nuance in everything that's going on. It may end up being my game of the year, and I haven't even completed all the endings yet. I want to save at least one for Halloween!

I'm intrigued by the new Nintendo trailer, which I assume is for Pikmin 5. However, nothing is guaranteed, and I appreciate that. It's not the typical way Nintendo teases something, and I find it more interesting than the reveal for Splatoon Raiders. While I'm not too concerned about the lore for Pikmin, the fact that the AR game says they're invisible is a good enough excuse for me. Although I'm not sure how that explains all the other strange animals. Maybe they're invisible too, or maybe it's not even Earth, but a similar planet or colony.

I think the reason we haven't seen humans in the game before is simply because of technology. The other games couldn't handle an enemy as big as the ones we'll see in Pikmin 5. And now's the chance for that to happen. I'm all for it, much more than I would be for Nintenbabies.

I'm eagerly waiting for Little Nightmares 3 to be released in just a few days. But I can't seem to find any reviews for it yet. I'm not sure what that says about the game's quality. The series has become one of my favorites in recent years because of its grotesque monsters, unsettling atmosphere, and relatable, yet silent protagonists. However, this time it's a different developer, so I'm not sure how closely they can match the unique vision of Tarsier Studios. Will GameCentral be reviewing it? At least we have Tarsier's upcoming scary game, Reanimal.

For me, all the talk about Game Pass is just a storm in a teacup. I occasionally use it for online multiplayer, but I don't have time for the games. I prefer to buy and own games when I want them. However, I do think you get a lot for the price. As an Xbox Series X owner, I'm content with what's provided. I have no issues with the brand, and I don't care if people think I'm naive or a fanboy. I believe Xbox has brought a lot to the gaming world, and the pros outweigh the negatives. I hope the rumors about them pulling out of the next generation are just nonsense. I would hate to see a console market dominated by PlayStation or potentially, Apple. But I will definitely be getting their next generation console because I'm invested in the ecosystem and enjoy the deals on the Xbox store. As long as the Xbox Series X is fully supported, I have no complaints. I try to tune out all the noise and opinions from the internet and YouTubers.
