Attention all consumers! It's important that you take a moment to check your refrigerators, freezers, and pantries. There have been recent concerns about foodborne illnesses and product recalls that could affect your health.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been investigating several cases involving Salmonella, E.coli, glass contamination, and undeclared allergens. These recalls are not connected to one specific outbreak and carry varying levels of health risks.
One of the most serious incidents involves the distribution of alfalfa sprouts by Everything Sprouts, a company based in Minneapolis. An ongoing multistate outbreak of Shiga toxin-producing E.coli and Salmonella has been linked to their products. As of August 31st, there have been 55 reported cases in 15 states, resulting in four hospitalizations.
Fortunately, there have been no reported deaths. In response to this, Everything Sprouts has recalled certain batches of their Calco and Everything Sprouts alfalfa sprouts, and later expanded the recall to include their Robust Radish Sprout Mix products. Another outbreak has been linked to jalapeño peppers from Sinaloa, Mexico, which has resulted in 431 illnesses and 57 hospitalizations across 32 states.
This has led to recalls of various products, such as salsa, guacamole, and pico de gallo, that contain these peppers. These recalls have been issued to ensure the safety of consumers. Even Halloween candy has been affected by these recalls.
Crystal Temptations recently recalled their Halloween Chocolatey Eyeballs due to undeclared milk in the ingredients. This could be potentially harmful to those with milk allergies or sensitivities. The candy was distributed through certain stores in 13 states and consumers are advised to destroy the candy and contact Crystal Temptations for a refund.
In addition, Panorama Produce has recalled Martina-brand mangoes sold at select Walmart stores in four states due to possible Salmonella contamination. Other recent recalls include Outshine Fruit Bars due to potential glass contamination, and Prince Bakery breads containing undeclared milk or sesame. It's important for consumers to check the FDA's recall database for specific information on affected products.
We want to make sure that everyone is aware of these recalls and takes the necessary precautions to protect their health. It's always better to be safe than sorry, so please take a moment to check your food and follow the instructions provided by the FDA. Your safety is our top priority.
