GST collections increase by 6.2% to more than Rs 1.84 lakh crore in June.
In the bustling city of New Delhi, there was a 6.2% increase in gross GST collections for the month of June, totaling over Rs. 1.84 lakh crore. However, it fell short of the previous two months' record of crossing the Rs. 2 lakh crore mark.

According to government data released on Tuesday, last year in June, gross GST collections were at Rs. 1,73,813 crore. In May, there was a noteworthy collection of Rs. 2.01 lakh crore, while April hit a record high of Rs. 2.37 lakh crore.

In June, there was a 4.6% increase in gross revenues from domestic transactions, totaling around Rs. 1.38 lakh crore. On the other hand, GST revenue from imports saw a growth of 11.4%, reaching Rs. 45,690 crore.

Out of the total collections, the gross Central GST revenues were at Rs. 34,558 crore, State GST revenues at Rs. 43,268 crore, and Integrated GST at approximately Rs. 93,280 lakh crore. There were also revenue collections from Cess, amounting to Rs. 13,491 crore.

In comparison to last year, total refunds for the month of June saw an increase of 28.4%, reaching Rs. 25,491 crore. The net GST mop-up stood at about Rs. 1.59 lakh crore, with a 3.3% year-on-year growth.

Partner at BDO India, Karthik Mani, noted that there was an 8.48% reduction in net GST collections for the month of June when compared to the previous month. This was due to a decrease in collections from both the domestic market and imports.

On the 8th anniversary of the introduction of GST, there is hope that this slow growth in collections on a year-on-year basis is just a temporary blip and that collections will return to their usual growth trajectory in the upcoming months, according to Mani.

While some larger states like Maharashtra, West Bengal, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu saw increases in collection between 4% to 8%, other states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Gujarat experienced a decrease of 1% to 4%. States like Haryana, Bihar, and Jharkhand showed a median increase of 10%.

Partner at Tax Connect Advisory, Vivek Jalan, stated that after two consecutive months of collecting over Rs. 2 lakh crore in GST revenues and double-digit growth, the Rs. 1.85 lakh crore collected in June 2025 seemed a little underwhelming. However, with a year-to-date growth of 11.8%, GST in India still has a tax buoyancy of over 1%, placing the country in a favorable position amidst global turmoil, Jalan added.
