Gov't emps in class 3 cited as major source of corruption by Anti-Corr Bureau, reports Thane News.
Data from the Thane unit of the Anti-corruption Bureau has revealed that the class-3 employees in the government service are the key source of corruption. As of October 19, a total of 62 out of the 122 class-3 employees and 15 class-2 employees have been caught on corruption.

According to Sunil Lokhande, superintendent of police, Thane ACB, the high number of arrests indicates that lower-level employees are often acting as mediators on orders from their superiors. In most cases, these employees are the signing authority for granting irregularities and carrying out illegitimate work.

Lokhande also stated that 85 traps were laid in total, with 122 persons arrested. The majority of the government officials arrested were from the police department, followed by those from the revenue department, zila parishad, and other government offices. Private individuals who act as middlemen were also accused, with a total of 22 such arrests.

The police have revealed that all the cases are under investigation and the exact amount of the disproportionate assets are yet to be ascertained. Four cases of disproportionate assets are presently underway this year, and three cases were under probe last year.

In order to combat corruption, Lokhande urged citizens to report any type of graft cases on their helpline number 1064. This helpline is operational round the clock, and can be used to fight bribery and extortion bids.
