Morgan State's marching band was chosen to perform at the White House's Juneteenth event.
Morgan State University's Magnificent Marching Machine had the incredible opportunity to perform at the White House on June 13 for President Biden's Juneteenth Concert. They were joined by several other HBCU marching bands and some well-known performers. The event was sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, Pernod Ricard USA, STARZ #TaketheLead Initiative, and The Recording Academy.

The band was honored to be part of such an iconic event, and Travis Jones, a drum major for the band, expressed his pride to The Baltimore Banner. He said, "It's a great opportunity to showcase the band and to showcase Morgan State’s talent. Before all this attention, HBCUs weren’t getting the light they deserve until bad things happened. But now, we can reflect and look at all the good things that have happened."

The Magnificent Marching Machine has received another great honor. It has been selected as the first HBCU marching band to perform at the D-Day 80 Normandy Parade in 2024 in Normandy, France. David K. Wilson, president of Morgan State University, expressed his thanks to the event organizers for this incredible opportunity that will allow the band members to "touch history."

During the parade, the Magnificent Marching Machine will perform "America the Beautiful" while marching between the two towns, Vierville-sur-Mer and Saint Laurent-sur-Mer, overlooking Omaha Beach. The band will also pay their respects by placing a wreath at the Normandy American Cemetery and performing a rendition of “Tribute to Americans.” This will be a lifetime experience for the band members, and one that they will remember forever.
