Gallery FPH draws attention to potential of experimental art spaces with its inaugural Pichwai art show.
Art is a timeless representation of culture, and it is something we can never have enough of. In a city constantly buzzing with new and old art spaces, a new gallery has opened its doors - Gallery FPH. It offers a more experimental space to both artists and art enthusiasts alike.

The recently concluded debut show - Pichwai Art - at the gallery had visitors of all ages admiring the regional art of Rajasthan and the unique atmosphere. The 41 paintings on display included works from President Award winning artists across the country and 38 of them were sold out in the 10 days of exhibition.

Curator Carol Goyal says, "It was a fantastic experience for both the audience and the artists. They were able to come out of their comfort zone and show their work to the South Bombay audience."

The gallery, which is spread across 3,000 sqft and faces the Arabian Sea, is supported by the Free Press Journal - one of the oldest newspapers in the country. It provides artists with all the necessary resources and support to promote their authentic creations.

Carol says, "Art should be available for people to see. Many are intimidated by art galleries, but spaces like these make art more accessible to them."

The gallery is also a great opportunity for art students to showcase their work without having to wait months for a spot in a big gallery. Carol adds, "They get to show their work to some of the best audiences in South Bombay, and they don't have to pay anything!"

Another great feature of the gallery is that buyers have the chance to purchase artworks directly from the artists. Carol says, "The biggest need for any art exhibition is the space, and Gallery FPH provides that opportunity to artists from rural India to come out and showcase their work in a city like Mumbai."

Carol is currently preparing for the upcoming shows which will feature sculptures from the art fraternity. She explains, "We are also thinking of having some artwork on the walls along with sculptures in the space."

The organisers also plan to organise art and photography competitions on special days and inviting renowned international artists to exhibit at Gallery FPH, depending on the response.

The Free Press Journal's new gallery space, Gallery FPH, is taking the city's art scene to a whole new level.
