Fireman injured in road accident at Ghatkopar-Andheri Link Road, driver arrested.
On Thursday night, a tragic accident occurred on the Ghatkopar-Andheri Link Road. Sandeep Thakur, a 55-year-old fireman from Marol Fire Brigade, was injured in the hit-and-run incident. His son Sahil, 21, had been driving and was taking his father to work for his night shift.

At 11:45 pm, Sahil slowed down the vehicle due to a speed bumper. However, a four-wheeler car, which was allegedly speeding, collided into Sahil's motorbike with great intensity. Sandeep was thrown into the air and landed several meters away while Sahil and his bike skidded.

The passerby, the driver of the four-wheeler - Parveez Shakil Sheikh, 22, from Marol, Andheri - and Sahil managed to pick up Sandeep and took him to Disha Hospital in Ghatkopar for treatment. Sandeep sustained injuries to his head, back, legs and arm.

Shivani, Sandeep's wife, was present during the time of the accident. She said the doctors provided basic treatments to Sandeep, but he remained unresponsive until Friday evening. After getting the CT Scan, X-rays and other samples, the doctors found that Sandeep had a crack in his backbone which will take a while to heal.

Sahil, who had just finished his graduation, was wearing a helmet and thus only sustained minor injuries. Shivani reported that the family does not have any money and the hospital is asking for ₹15,000 for the treatment, which she plans to borrow from one of Sandeep's friends. She also added that the accused, Sheikh, refused to provide any compensation.

The Ghatkopar police arrested Sheikh and charged him with sections 279, 337 of the Indian Penal Code and section 184 among others of the Motor Vehicles Act. Shivani is now worried for her husband's wellbeing and her family's financial situation.
