The two-day national conference on 'Governance in India: Priorities, Policies, and Prospects' came to a successful end on Saturday at Utkal University in Bhubaneswar. The event, organized by the Postgraduate Department of Public Administration in collaboration with the World Bank-supported Odisha Higher Education Programme for Excellence and Equity, saw a great turnout of over a hundred participants from different parts of the country.
The conference was a platform for the presentation of nearly 75 papers that addressed a wide range of topics. These included discussions on the challenges faced by smart cities due to limited resources, the dilemma of providing menstrual leave for women professionals, and the policies surrounding natural disasters and their mitigation. Other topics covered at the conference were the disparity in education opportunities between vernacular and city-educated learners, as well as the pressing issue of mental health among youth.
The second day of the conference was chaired by the esteemed academician, Pratik Kumar Mishra, along with Naresh Chandra Sahu, Associate Professor of Humanities at IIT-Bhubaneswar. The valedictory ceremony was led by Utkal University's Registrar, Kahnu Charan Dhir, and was attended by the chief speaker, E. Venkatesu, and conference convener, Pratima Sarangi.
The closing ceremony also saw the recognition of two participants who received the 'Best Paper Presentation Award'. The Organising Secretary, Hemanta Kumar Dash, expressed his gratitude to all the participants and collaborators for their contribution in making the conference a success.
