Expect rain in most areas of Odisha due to depression.
Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, is preparing for a wet spell in the upcoming four days. This is due to the forecast of a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal which is expected to intensify into a depression by Sunday, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Currently, the system is identified as a well-marked low-pressure area situated over the northwest and central parts of the Bay of Bengal. The IMD has released a bulletin stating that this system is likely to move towards the north and strengthen into a depression off the coasts of north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal on September 8. After that, it is expected to move towards the west-northwest direction, covering the states of Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha, Jharkhand, and parts of north Chhattisgarh over the next three days.

In the past 24 hours, the state of Odisha has already experienced heavy rainfall with Khairmal in Boud district recording the highest downpour of 81 mm. The Met office has reported a rainfall of 79 mm in Gosani, Gajapati district. The IMD has predicted more heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours in certain areas such as Puri, Khurdha, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri.

The weather office has also issued an 'orange' warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Koraput districts on Sunday. Similarly, a 'yellow' warning has been issued for heavy rainfall in Kendrapara, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur districts on the same day.

The IMD has further predicted rain in most parts of Odisha on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. It has also warned about the possible squally weather with strong surface winds reaching up to 40-50 kmph and gusting up to 60 kmph in the northwest and west central parts of the Bay of Bengal, along with the Odisha coast from September 8 to 11.

As a precautionary measure, fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea along the Odisha coast, northwest Bay of Bengal, and adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal during this period. This will ensure their safety and minimize any potential risks.
