Ex-manager sentenced to 16 years in prison for embezzling $10M from Amazon.
Kayricka Wortham, a former manager at Amazon in Atlanta, Georgia, has been sentenced to 16 years in federal prison for her part in a fraud scheme that stole nearly $10 million from the online retail giant.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Wortham and six other co-conspirators were accused of using "fake vendors and fictitious invoices" to swindle Amazon out of millions. U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan said Wortham committed new crimes while out on bond, even going as far as creating a fake dismissal document from the court with a forged signature from the Chief U.S. District Judge.

Wortham pleaded guilty in December along with Demetrius Hines of Smyrna, Georgia, who was also accused of using their managerial positions to submit fake invoices. The two are said to have used the money to purchase real estate and luxury cars, including a $1 million home in Smyrna and a Lamborghini Urus, to name a few.

According to authorities, the 16-year sentence reflects how seriously they took Wortham and Hines' crimes. Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service’s Atlanta Field Office Steven R. Baisel said, “This individual stole millions from a business that employed her – exploiting not only their trust, but our nation’s financial systems. Thanks to the hard work of our partners in the U.S. Attorney’s office, her sentence reflects the seriousness of her crimes and sends a message that this kind of fraudulent activity will not be tolerated.”
