Wow, have you been watching Emmerdale lately? It's been on fire! As a self-proclaimed soap fanatic, there's nothing I love more than seeing one of my favorite shows doing so well. I have to give it to the soap teams, they work incredibly hard, filming up to 10 scenes a day and producing six episodes a week. Right now, Emmerdale is buzzing with non-stop action and a variety of storylines, making it a must-watch for me.
I have to admit, there was a bit of a lull in the show about a year ago, but they have come a long way since then. Despite some weaker storylines, such as Marlon's stroke and Paddy's depression, I am thoroughly enjoying the show more than ever. I am eagerly anticipating each new episode and devouring the storylines I receive in order to work on previews. Some people may argue that certain storylines are dragging on for too long, but I believe Emmerdale is doing the right thing by taking their time with Belle Dingle's ordeal at the hands of Tom King.
Speaking of Belle, her story has been going on for quite some time now, but it's incredibly haunting and realistic. In real life, these types of situations can drag on for years, and it's a difficult battle for the victims to escape and get justice. It's a scary reality that many people suffer in silence, and we may only know the half of it. While I personally may have cringed at some of the more intense scenes, like Tom walking around with an axe wound in his back, overall, it has been a powerful and gripping storyline. Eden has been absolutely outstanding in her portrayal of Belle, showcasing her talent for portraying mental health and psychosis. And James has been infuriatingly menacing as Tom, a difficult role to play but one he has mastered.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate Piper the dog as well? Minnie, the canine actress, may just be my favorite soap pet of all time. But while Belle's story has been at the forefront, Emmerdale has not forgotten about its other characters. The return of Kim Tate to her wicked ways has been a joy to watch. I've been calling for her to regain her edge for a while now, and actress Claire King is absolutely thriving in this role. It's clear that she enjoys playing the villain, and it's exactly what the audience has been longing for.
But Kim isn't the only one with a captivating storyline. Natalie J Robb, one of TV's best actors, has been given some meaty material with her character Moira's brain tumor. She has been absolutely mesmerizing in her performance, showcasing her incredible range as an actress. Her chemistry with co-star Jeff Hordley, who plays Cain, is electric as they navigate the fear of Moira not making it through her operation.
And let's not forget about all the other amazing actors who have returned to Emmerdale, like Michael Parr as Ross Barton and Danny Miller as Aaron Dingle. Both characters have a lot of exciting storylines coming up. Ross is at his self-destructive best, embracing his rogue side while also dealing with inner turmoil. And as for Charity, I can't wait to see where her story goes.
There's also the enigma that is John Sugden, played by the talented Danny Miller. There is so much to unpack with this character, both in his present relationships and his past. And speaking of complicated pasts, Paula Lane has been a revelation as Ella Forster. While she proved her acting capabilities in her previous role as Kylie Platt in Coronation Street, playing a historic killer child can't have been an easy task. But she has brought depth and a hint of sinister to the character, and I can't wait to see where her story goes, especially with the revelation of her attraction to Chas.
But my absolute favorite addition to the show in the past year has to be Beth Cordingly as Ruby Fox-Miligan. She is a chaotic, occasionally spiteful, and often vulnerable character, making her a classic female soap character with the potential to be a legend. Emmerdale has also been shaking things up with special episodes, like Belle and Tom's dinner party and an episode exploring potential outcomes for her story. And there are more of these to come, which I have had the privilege of previewing, and they are just as engaging and full of twists.
Emmerdale is not only delivering blockbuster storylines, but also showcasing the importance of community and humor. The tribute episodes for Zak Dingle were a testament to this, showcasing the Dingle family at their best, with their diverse personalities and dynamics. As for what's coming up, there's a lot to look forward to. Will Moira make it through her operation? How will Tom finally get his comeuppance? And what will happen with Liam and Chas's secret?
I am beyond excited for the future of Emmerdale, and I'm glad that ITV has embraced a digital-led model, ensuring a longer life for their iconic shows. I have been fortunate enough to know what's coming up, and I can assure you that the reactions will be just as enthusiastic as mine. Long live the Dales and its latest golden era!
