During a religious ritual in Puri, a statue of a deity fell on some participants, resulting in nine injured individuals.
During the Rath Yatra festival at the Puri Jagannath temple, a mishap occurred on Tuesday which resulted in the injury of nine servitors. The incident took place when the idol of Lord Balabhadra was being taken out of the chariot and being transported to a temple as a part of the festival. According to Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain, five of the injured were taken to a hospital for treatment, while the remaining four suffered minor injuries.

The mishap occurred during the Pahandi ritual, where the heavy wooden idol was being brought down from Lord Balabhadra's chariot to be taken to the Gundicha temple. It is believed that the servitors carrying the idol lost control of it, causing it to fall on them. The incident raised concerns among the people, including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who immediately directed Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan to visit Puri and take appropriate measures.

The Puri Jagannath temple, which falls under the state government's law department, is a sacred place for many devotees. The chief minister also expressed his wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured servitors. Despite the unfortunate event, the tradition of the Rath Yatra continued as the ritual of the sibling deities - Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Balabhadra - resumed soon after the mishap. All the idols were safely taken inside the Gundicha temple, where they will remain until the 'Bahuda Jatra' or the return car festival on July 15.
