On Wednesday, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Punjab Police conducted a joint operation that resulted in a major blow to the inter-state narcotic network. The operation led to the apprehension of one drug smuggler from Mullanpur Dakha in Punjab. The police also seized Rs 4.94 crore, 38 fake vehicle number plates, and one revolver.

The accused is one of the key suspects in a case related to the 30 kg heroin recently recovered in Jammu. Investigations are ongoing to establish the backward and forward linkages of the accused.

Since July 5, 2022 Punjab Police have arrested 20,979 drug smugglers, including 3,003 big fish. 15,434 FIRs have been registered, out of which 1,864 are related to commercial quantity. The police have recovered 15.10.55 kg heroin from across the state after carrying out cordon and search operations in drug-affected areas, and laying checkpoints at vulnerable routes.

Additionally, 147.5 kg heroin was recovered by Punjab Police from seaports of Gujarat and Maharashtra, taking the total effective recovery of heroin to 1,658.05 kg in just 15 months. Punjab Police are committed to make the state drug-free, as per the vision of CM Bhagwant Mann.

Recently, 12 kg heroin and ₹19 lakh were recovered from two drug smugglers in Punjab. The police are conducting further investigations and have taken the two suspects into custody.
