DIY SOS looking for help after criticism of damaging homes.
The DIY SOS team is taking part in a very special project. Next month, they will be building a children’s counselling and therapy centre in just 10 days. Volunteers are welcome to help out with this exciting task.

The project is designed to supplement the upcoming BBC Radio 2 concert in Leicester’s Victoria Park on September 16 and 17. Interior designer Gabby Blackman spoke about the project, saying, “I want young people who feel like there is no hope to walk in here and be able to talk about their feelings. I want them to be supported, feel safe and warm, and know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.”

Host Nick Knowles will be joined by BBC Radio 2 presenters, as well as an army of volunteers. This comes after a family claimed the show ‘wrecked’ their home. Peter Chapman and his family filmed the programme in 2020, but found the home inadequate. He told the Daily Mail, “DIY SOS has robbed me of the last three years and the stress is killing me.” He has asked the organisers not to air the show in June 2022 and has faced embarrassment in his local community since.

A BBC spokesperson said, “DIY SOS is a heart-warming programme that brings communities together and helps improve the lives of those in need. As with all of our previous projects, the Charlton Kings build was planned and completed in accordance with the necessary required regulatory approvals and signed off onsite by building control.” They have offered solutions to Peter but he has declined them so far.
