The popular video game franchise Hitman has made a big decision following Conor McGregor's recent civil court case. The Irish mixed martial arts fighter, who appeared in court last week, lost the case against a woman named Nikita Hand. She accused him of raping her in a Dublin hotel back in 2018 and was awarded damages.
As a result, the independent game developer and publisher IO Interactive has announced that all content related to McGregor will be removed from the game this week. In a statement shared on X, Hitman officials stated that they take the matter very seriously and cannot ignore its implications. Therefore, they will begin removing all content featuring McGregor from their storefronts effective immediately.
McGregor's character, known as The Disruptor, was an optional character in the most recent Hitman game and was not part of the initial release. Players were able to slay him in the game and could also spend extra in-game cash to accessorize his avatar with items such as a virtual fur coat.
It is not yet known if refunds will be available for those who have already made purchases. McGregor first appeared in Hitman in June as part of an Elusive Target DLC mission. He then returned for a limited-time event in November, which was supposed to run until December 8.
After his court case loss, McGregor was ordered to pay at least €248,000 in damages. He has vowed to appeal the verdict, but did not comment as he left the High Court. In a post on X, he mentioned that he is now focused on his future and thanked all his supporters worldwide.
In a longer post over the weekend, McGregor stated that he and his team are not done yet and will continue to fight for justice. On the other hand, Hand expressed her hope that her case will serve as a reminder for other victims of assault to keep pushing for justice. She added that the legal battle is something she will never forget, but now she can try to move on and look forward to the future with her family and friends.
