Former Chelsea striker Carlton Cole recently spoke out about the transfer saga of Morgan Rogers, who ultimately signed with Chelsea from Aston Villa instead of Arsenal. According to Cole, this decision by Rogers "messed up" Arsenal's transfer window, and the Gunners are still in need of another attacking midfielder to play on the left. In the past, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had identified Rogers as one of his top targets to strengthen the squad, especially after their success in the Premier League and Champions League last season.
However, Chelsea swooped in with an incredible £117 million deal, making Rogers the most expensive British player in history. Cole, who previously played for both Chelsea and West Ham, believes that Arsenal's squad depth is impressive, with players like Bruno Guimaraes joining the team. However, he still thinks they need one more signing before the transfer window closes, preferably a left-sided forward.
Arsenal has been linked with PSG's Bradley Barcola, but they are currently behind Liverpool in the race due to their reluctance to meet the hefty £140 million asking price. Cole also mentioned that Rogers was supposed to join Arsenal, but he ultimately chose Chelsea, which disrupted Arsenal's plans. Rogers himself stated that he chose Chelsea because he believes in the club's direction and is excited to be a part of their project.
Regarding Barcola's potential move to Arsenal, Cole heard that the player would prefer to go there instead of Liverpool, but Arsenal is not willing to pay the required fee. He believes that Liverpool would also be a great place for Barcola to flourish. Although Cole thinks Arsenal could benefit from one more major signing, he still predicts that they will retain their Premier League crown.
They have started off strong by winning the Community Shield against Manchester City, but Cole believes they need to sort out their left-hand side. When asked about his Premier League title prediction, Cole chose Arsenal as the winners, with Chelsea and Manchester City following behind. He believes that Chelsea's lack of European games and Xabi Alonso's experience as the manager will work in their favor.
As for Manchester City, Cole thinks they will struggle without Pep Guardiola and Rodri.
