Raipur: On August 15th, 2023, Independence Day, the Chhattisgarh Police Department is set to honor its officers and employees with Police Gallantry Medals, Special Service Medals, and Meritorious Service Medals. This was announced on Monday by the Office of the President of India.

The President of India will also be attending the grand ceremony, to personally present the awards to the thirty-five officers and employees of the Chhattisgarh Police.

Four Indian Police Service officials from the Chhattisgarh Police will be receiving the prestigious awards, for their outstanding service. They are Kamlochan Kashyap, Deputy Inspector General of Police, D.I.G. Range, Dantewada who will receive the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Services; Mohit Garg, who will receive the Police Gallantry Medal; Smt. Neha Champawat, Deputy Inspector General of Police, NCRB New Delhi, who will receive the Medal for Meritorious Services; and Surjan Ram Bhagat, 22nd Corps, Kanker, who will also receive the Medal for Meritorious Services.

The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel, Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu, and Director General of Police Ashok Juneja have expressed their congratulations and appreciation of the officers and their families for this achievement.

The Government of India has announced that a total of 954 police personnel will be honored with Police Medals on Independence Day 2023. Out of the 230 Gallantry Awards, 125 officers were chosen from states significantly impacted by Left Wing Extremism, such as Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.

From Chhattisgarh, 24 police officers/employees are set to receive the Police Gallantry Medal. They are Laxman Kenwat, Inspector , IPS Mohit Garg, BHPUS, 19th Corps, , Jagdalpur, Pillu Ram Mandavi, Sub-Inspector, , Jogiram Podiyam, Sauni , and Head Constables Hidma Podiam, Pramod Kadiam, Balaram Kashyap, Bijuram Majji, Late Budhram Hapka, all from Bijapur District. Constables Lakshminarayan Marpalli and Magalu Kudiam, Chhatrapal Sahu, Suresh Jabba, Sauni, Sushil Jetty, and Bardi Dharmaiah of District Bijapur, Sher Bahadur Singh Thakur, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Operation, District Jashpur, Arun Markam, Sub-Inspector, District Raipur, and Manoj Mishra, Head Constable, District Bijapur.

Ten officers/employees are also set to receive the Police Medal for Meritorious Services. They are IPS Neha Champawat, Deputy Inspector General of Police, NCRB New Delhi, Surjan Ram Bhagat, 22nd Corps, Chasbal, Kanker, Bhavna Pandey, Zonal Superintendent of Police, Special Branch, Bhilai, Prakash Toppo, Sub-Commander , Rajesh Kumar Sharma , Telosphor Minz , Ganpat Prasad Pandey , Thak Bahadur Soni , Ved Kumar Mandavi, Head Constable, Traffic, District Kanker, and Shailendra Singh, Constable, Traffic, District Bilaspur.

The President of India has also approved the conferment of Correctional Service Medals on Prison Personnel, including four personnel from Chhattisgarh—Hemant Kumar Namdeo , Tarachand Awasthi , Tek Ram Verma , and Devnarayan Ram .
