Tory Lanez, also known as Daystar Peterson, recently faced a major disappointment in his legal battle. The California Supreme Court has decided not to review his case, effectively putting an end to his hopes of having his sentence reduced or overturned. This news comes after Lanez's attorneys argued on his behalf regarding the infamous incident where Megan Thee Stallion was shot in the foot in 2020.
AllHipHop reported that the state's highest court rejected the appeal petition that was filed in an attempt to overturn Lanez's conviction. This was his final chance to reverse the decision made by a California jury in December of 2022. At that time, Lanez was found guilty of charges including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He was then sentenced in August of 2023 and subsequently appealed the decision.
Unfortunately for Lanez, things did not go in his favor. In November, a three-judge panel of the 2nd District Court of Appeal rejected his appeal in a lengthy 46-page decision. The panel concluded that Lanez's claims of prosecutorial misconduct were unfounded and found no reversible error in the trial judge's decisions. Lanez then took his case to the California Supreme Court, but they upheld the decision of the court of appeals, ultimately solidifying his prison sentence.
The incident that led to Lanez's legal troubles occurred in July of 2020. During a party at Kylie Jenner's house in California, Lanez allegedly shot Megan Thee Stallion in the foot. The "Luv" rapper was later convicted of this offense during the trial, where Megan Thee Stallion testified that Lanez shot at her feet and then told her to dance as she walked away from the SUV they were riding in. The two musicians, along with a friend and bodyguard, were leaving the party at Jenner's Hollywood Hills home.
Before his sentencing, Lanez was facing a maximum of 22 years in prison and the possibility of deportation back to his home country of Canada. He is currently serving his sentence at the California Men's Colony, where he was involved in a violent incident last year. Reports state that Lanez was stabbed 14 times and suffered serious injuries, including collapsed lungs. This unfortunate event occurred after Lanez's first televised interview from prison, where he maintained his innocence and claimed to have been wrongfully convicted.
