September 21st 2023.
The CEO of Fem Equity, Adeola Ajani, is doing her part to try and close the gender pay gap between Black women and white men. On September 22nd, she will be holding the first ever BLK Women Equal Pay Day Conference at Johns Hopkins University’s FastForward U.
The one-day event will feature keynote speaker Dana Peterson Moore, Baltimore’s Chief Equity Officer, who will open the conference at 11:50am. Attendees can also expect to enjoy a variety of workshops, panel discussions, and networking opportunities designed to empower Black women in the early stages of their careers.
The conference is supported by the GET Cities initiative, which is committed to getting more women involved in the tech industry. Christina L. Glancy, the D.C. manager for GET Cities, spoke about the importance of their partnership with Fem Equity, saying “As we proudly partner with Fem Equity on the BLK Women Equal Pay Day Conference, we aim to bridge the gap and empower Black and brown women in their careers and their journey towards success in the tech industry and beyond.”
Adeola Ajani is passionate about creating a space for Black and brown women to be heard and gain the resources they need to thrive in the tech industry and beyond. As she explains, “BLK Women Equal Pay Day Conference is a space where Black and brown women have a seat at the table and are encouraged to speak up and gain the resources needed to soar because I know we are limitless and we need more spaces to showcase that.”
The conference comes at a time when the gender pay gap is still a pressing issue. Last year, the U.S. Government Accountability Office reported that Black women earned 63 cents for every dollar a white man made. To recognize this disparity, July 27th was declared Black Women’s Equal Pay Day, to mark the extra 208 days of work Black women must put in to reach the same level of pay as white men.
The BLK Women Equal Pay Day Conference is an opportunity to take a step in the right direction and to make progress towards closing the gender pay gap. To register and RSVP for the event, please visit the link here: https://t.co/b18gZGPPAT.
