CBI arrests tax officer for accepting Rs 4,000 bribe.

In Bhubaneswar, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made an arrest on Wednesday. According to officials, an Income Tax officer in Odisha was taken into custody for reportedly receiving a bribe of Rs 4,000. The accused has been identified as Ramesh Kumar Mohanty and he held the position of superintendent at the Income Tax office in Bhadrak district.

Reports state that Mohanty had demanded a sum of Rs 5,000 from an individual in exchange for deleting a duplicate PAN card record. The concerned person, however, did not comply with the officer's request and instead reached out to the CBI to file a complaint. Taking swift action, the agency set a trap to catch Mohanty in the act of accepting the bribe.

And indeed, they were successful in catching him red-handed while he was allegedly receiving the amount of Rs 4,000. As a result, a case has been registered against Mohanty under the Prevention of Corruption by the CBI. This incident has caused quite a stir in Odisha, with many questioning the integrity and ethics of government officials.

It is indeed a sad reality that corruption continues to plague our society, but it is reassuring to know that swift action was taken by the CBI to apprehend the guilty individual. Let us hope that this serves as a warning to those who are tempted to engage in such unlawful activities, and that justice will be served to the fullest extent.
