James Dee has returned to the conflict in the eastern Donbas region for a second deployment and is now on the frontline with Ukrainian forces.

Two British men, Dee and James Chadwick, have recently been in peril of being struck by a Russian drone equipped with a homemade bomb.

The 30-year-old ex-welder from Middlesbrough, who had no prior military experience, conveyed that the conflict is much more dangerous and tiresome since he rejoined the fight.

He mentioned how they are living in trenches in sub-zero temperatures while being attacked by a Russian mountain brigade situated higher up.

Dee and Chadwick are in the Donetsk oblast as Russian forces are attempting to take over the area, leading to it being ominously termed as 'the meat grinder'.

Recently, the duo narrowly averted being hit by the drone as Dee shouted warnings for them to flee.

After the drone crashed, the two men felt their legs stinging due to the dirt and rocks from the blast.

At the moment, the soldiers are defending the area in anticipation of a spring counter-attack, which will require more arms from Western leaders.

James Dee has gone back to the conflict zone for a second deployment, risking his life to take up arms with a Ukrainian unit in the eastern Donbas region. He and fellow Briton James Chadwick recently experienced a close call when a Russian kamikaze drone nearly hit them. The former welder, who had no military experience before joining the fight, described the conflict as a 'whole different war' since his return on February 1. The volunteers are dug in, withstanding freezing temperatures and direct fire from a Russian mountain brigade occupying higher ground. He recalled the drone incident, saying, "We had just come back from the trenches when I heard a noise, I knew straight away that it was a drone...If we had set off walking like 10 seconds sooner we would have been blown up." As the Ukraine waits on requests for new arms to be answered, Dee and his comrades are continuing to hold the ground.
