Biden pledges to close racial wealth gap by creating pathways to economic opportunity for Black people.
President Joe Biden is seeking re-election, and this time, he is determined to put an end to racial inequality. At a fundraising event in New York on September 18, hosted by several esteemed Black business leaders, Biden highlighted the role of Black Americans in the country’s economic success.

“Black Americans play a critical role in the economy, and disparities exist in every dimension in Black economic life, including representation, participation, and pay,” he said. “I’m committed to addressing these disparities.”

The event was attended by business titans such as Kenneth Chenault, Clarence Otis, Kenneth Frazier, and Tony Coles. House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries and Maryland’s first Black Governor, Wes Moore, also joined the event as special guests, with Jeffries participating via a pre-recorded video.

In his speech, Biden also highlighted some key points regarding the state of Black business, such as low unemployment numbers, the growth of small Black businesses, and high labor force participation. He also noted that Black businesses are thriving at the fastest rate ever in 25 years and applauded his administration for awarding $70 billion in federal contracts to disadvantaged businesses.

Biden is likely counting on the Black vote to win the White House address, which is why his administration spent $25 million on ad campaigns, narrated by a Black woman, to highlight the rise of Black business owners and the decrease in Black child poverty.

“On his first day in office with a country in crisis, President Biden got to work. For us," the narrator says. "Cutting Black child poverty in half. More money for Black entrepreneurs. Millions of new, good-paying jobs. He’s lowered the cost of living and prescription drugs, but there’s more to do.”

The event was just the start of a long series of Biden's fundraising efforts, with the President being present as a headliner for four more events in New York, including one on Broadway. During one of the events at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, Biden addressed the audience and warned them about his opponent Donald Trump who he said is “determined to destroy the nation.”

“Let there be no question, Donald Trump and his MAGA Republicans are determined to destroy American democracy,” Biden said. “And I will always defend, protect, and fight for our democracy.”
