Bank manager and associates used branch to siphon off Rs 69 lakh from bank.
Bhopal was shaken on Tuesday, when the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) officials announced that the bank manager of a public sector bank in Saket Nagar had been cheating his bank with the help of 21 other people, including an official from the bank loan verification agency. It was found that together, they had siphoned off a total of Rs 69 lakh from the bank.

An investigation revealed that the then branch manager, Sunil Chaure, had sanctioned personal loans to 12 people, including two from a private company situated in Budhni, on the basis of fake documents. It was also found that 12 employees from the company, along with the bank manager, had presented fake documents as employees of Security Paper Mills in Narmadapuram in order to take out the loans. Additionally, two other accused had submitted fake documents as employees of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya.

Rather than engaging the services of Ahmedabad-based Riddhi Corporate Service Limited for field verification of customers, the loan was approved with a fake verification report. Both, the field verification staff of the company and its director, have been named among the 21 accused in the forgery case. Subsequently, Madhya Pradesh Economic Offenses Investigation Bureau has made all 21 accused, including Sunil Chaure, the bank brokers, associate, 14 customers and others, responsible for the crime.

The EOW has subsequently registered a case against all the accused, under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471, 120B of IPC and sections 13, 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act. It has been stated that the bank manager had prepared a fake bank verification report and included the director and field verification officer of Riddhi Corporate Service Limited in the crime.

In conclusion, a total of 21 people have been accused in the forgery case, including Sunil Chaure, the then bank manager, three brokers of the bank, an associate, 14 customers who took loans on the basis of fake documents, the director of the verification company and others. They will all have to face the consequences of their actions.
