Maharashtra was left mourning the passing of a beloved political leader this Friday. Former Union and State Minister Babanrao Dhakne passed away after a brief illness at a private hospital in Ahmednagar. Moreover, he was Minister of State for Energy in the government of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, and had also handled several key ministries in Maharashtra besides serving as Leader of Opposition and Deputy Speaker of Assembly.
Dhakne was a dedicated advocate for the Goa Liberation Movement, peasants, workers, labourers, sugarcane farmers, and unemployed youth. Throughout his life, he carried out numerous campaigns, sit-ins, and demonstrations to support their causes. Nationalist Congress Party Working President Supriya Sule and other leaders have expressed their grief over the demise of Dhakne, describing him as "an honest leader of the common masses". His passing has truly marked the end of an era of leadership.
