After a long and successful career spanning over five decades, Ali Carter is now feeling more confident than ever. After winning the German Masters in February and reaching the Players Championship final, Carter believes he is playing better than he ever has. He has now also firmly re-established himself in the world's top 16.
"I’m playing better now than I ever have," Carter said. "I'm working with Chris Henry on some new things and they’re paying dividends. I’m number five on the one-year list, number 11 on the two-year, more centuries this season than I have in any other. So, the stats say I’m playing better than I ever have. I’m 43, my health is good and I’m looking forward to seeing what the tournament brings."
Having come close to quitting snooker last year due to his struggles, he decided to take a different approach and reinvent himself with the help of his coach. "I’ve reinvented myself, changed my practice and it’s paying dividends," he said.
When asked if he could go one step further this season, Carter replied, "Absolutely I can, yeah. One step at a time, there’s a long way to go, there’s a lot of good players, but everyone knocks each other out. I’ve been down to the end twice, I’m playing better than I ever have, I’ve put in more work now than I ever have. So whatever that brings…if it brings me getting beat 10-1 in the first round, so what, I go home, I’ve had a good season. But if I can play anywhere near how I've been playing I fancy doing well here."
