It's been 30 years since the disappearance of Mark Jansen, a Melbourne man who vanished under suspicious circumstances. Today, his daughter has shared an emotional plea, hoping to shed some light on her father's case.
Jansen was last seen leaving the fish shop he co-owned with his business partner in Dandenong, Melbourne's south-east, on November 12, 1994. According to police, he left in his yellow Holden Gemini sedan, accompanied by two men and a woman. It's believed that he was on his way to Adelaide for the Grand Prix at the time.
However, he never made it to his destination and was never seen again. It wasn't until nearly a decade later that partial remains were discovered, leading authorities to believe that foul play was involved. Detective Dave Dunstan, speaking at a press conference today, stated that they are seeking assistance to find answers and determine who may be responsible for Jansen's disappearance.
At the time of his vanishing, Jansen was living in a caravan in the Dandenong area. He had recently declared bankruptcy and owed money to several individuals. Police also suspect that he may have been involved in low-level drug dealing.
In 2014, DNA testing confirmed that the partial remains found during unrelated excavation works in Marysville belonged to Jansen. His eldest daughter, Lichelle, expressed the ongoing pain and heartache that her family has endured since his disappearance. "Losing you broke something in me that I don't think will ever heal," she shared in a statement. "I was just a child when you disappeared, but the pain of not having you by my side has followed me every day since."
Lichelle made a heartfelt plea for anyone with information to come forward and help bring "justice for my dad." She emphasized that even the smallest piece of information could be the key to solving the case and providing closure for her family. "Please don't stay silent," she begged. "Imagine if this were your family, your father, your pain."
In hopes of finding more leads, police have released images of three individuals who may be able to assist in locating Jansen. One is described as a Caucasian male, between the ages of 25 and 30, with a medium build and clean-shaven dark hair. The second male is also Caucasian, but stocky with dark collar-length hair and clean-shaven. The third person is a slim Caucasian woman with fair, straight shoulder-length hair.
