"Reader's Feature declares Marvel's Wolverine as their game of the year, without hesitation."

One reader believes that Marvel's Wolverine is the top game of 2026, despite conflicting opinions from critics and fans, due to its strong story and gameplay.

Marvel's Wolverine has received a mixed reception from both critics and fans. However, one reader is adamant that it is the best new game of 2026, with a gripping story and engaging gameplay. Recent news confirmed that Marvel's Wolverine was not a flop, and in fact, had sold almost 2 million copies in just three days.

This is great news for me as I have thoroughly enjoyed the game. It's disheartening to see it being criticized and used as a punching bag for the past month, with complaints that could be applied to any big-budget game, including Insomniac's previous titles. The negativity surrounding the game seems to have been mixed up with the justified backlash against Sony's no-disc policy, as well as some misleading gameplay clips that made it seem like a shallow and unengaging experience.

But let me assure you, it's not like that at all. It's not on the same level as Devil May Cry, as some have suggested, but not everyone enjoys complex combos or having to spend hours mastering the combat system. Unfortunately, once the internet latches onto something, it's hard to change their minds.

This has led to strong opinions about a game that hasn't even been released yet, and even after its release, it received a Metacritic score of 76. As someone who doesn't buy many new games, I was initially drawn to Marvel's Wolverine because of my love for the character and my enjoyment of Insomniac's previous work on the Spider-Man games. So, I was sold from the moment the game was announced.

Of course, I was disappointed when the previews came out, but as the memes and unfair complaints started to pile up, I realized things were getting out of hand. And when I finally got my hands on the game and played it, I couldn't understand where all the negativity was coming from. The combat is not overly complicated, but it's not a walk in the park either.

There is a variety of enemy types, and I always felt challenged and had to strategize to avoid getting overwhelmed. I do agree that the boss battles have received some valid criticism, as GameCentral pointed out in their review. However, I would argue that it's only the first two that are problematic.

The rest of the boss battles are well-designed, with a satisfying multi-stage final battle that brings everything together. I also enjoyed the nightmare doors and their survival challenges, although they were quite challenging. Still, I found it rewarding to beat them and get the highest score.

There are also plenty of unlockables, such as skins, extra abilities, and moves, which add depth to the combat. Plus, there are even more unlockables after completing the game. But if the game only had these elements, it would feel a bit empty.

However, that's not the case. The story and characters are a significant part of the overall experience, and in my opinion, they are executed brilliantly. In fact, I would say that the story is better than the first two Spider-Man games, which felt a bit disjointed and lacked depth.

In Wolverine, the characters are complex, and most of them are known as villains. I was particularly impressed with Mystique, who was portrayed better than in the movies, and had a satisfying ending based on her actions in the game. However, the standout character for me was Jean Grey.

She was also portrayed better than in the movies, and her relationship with Wolverine was portrayed realistically. It's a love story, but it's not a smooth-sailing one, and the player is kept guessing until the end. I found it compelling, and it added depth to the characters, despite their superhero status.

Overall, Marvel's Wolverine is the best new game I have played this year. However, I must admit that I haven't played many new games, so my judgment may not be the most reliable. But I have played it and enjoyed it, and I believe the negative reputation it has been given is unfair.

I hope it doesn't hinder the chances of a sequel.
