Aberdeen's Chaophraya restaurant has received positive reviews.
When Grant Dickie heard about the new festive set menu at Chaophraya, he just had to experience it for himself. So, he made his way to the restaurant, located on the corner of Union Terrace and Union Street in Aberdeen.

As he entered, he couldn't help but notice the impressive building that used to be The Monkey House and the offices of an insurance company. Now, it was transformed into a beautiful space with a Thai influence. The granite columns and old wood paneling were perfectly complemented by gold statues, lanterns, and even a sunken dining table.

The staff at Chaophraya were exceptional throughout the evening, leading Grant to his table and suggesting the Snowdrop cocktail to start. With its blend of vanilla vodka, white chocolate liqueur, cream, and more, it was the perfect way to kick off the night with a touch of winter spirit.

For the first course, Grant and his companion shared the Classic Starter Selection platter. It included delicious Thai chicken tacos, chicken satay, chicken spring rolls, tempura king prawns, and a spicy crispy duck salad. There was more than enough for the two of them to enjoy, but some of Grant's favorites were the duck salad and tempura prawns.

Next up were the main dishes - Panang Nuea Yang, Ped Yang Sauce Som, and Moo Grob Kua Prik Kluea - accompanied by sides of maple glazed pigs in blankets topped with spring onion and chili Brussels sprouts. Each dish was bursting with flavor, and the fusion of traditional festive foods with Thai twists was a delightful surprise. Grant couldn't resist the Panang, a coconut-based curry sauce that never disappoints.

For those who prefer beer, Grant recommends pairing the dishes with a Chang lager. Its light and refreshing notes perfectly complement the spices and flavors of the food.

To end the evening on a sweet note, they were served a White Chocolate Bombe - a white chocolate shell filled with dark chocolate mousse, served with white chocolate ice cream and a salted caramel sauce. After indulging in the rich mains, the sweetness was a welcome treat.

Grant noted that the portions at Chaophraya were generous, and by the end of the evening, they felt thoroughly satisfied. He highly recommends paying a visit to Chaophraya at 1 Union Terrace in Aberdeen for a memorable dining experience.
