The African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) is proud to announce the 5th annual AAFCA Television Honors taking place on December 3rd. This event is an opportunity to recognize the incredible Black figures in television and on streaming services throughout the past year.
The festivities will be held at the luxurious Hotel Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica. AAFCA Co-Founder and President Gil Robertson spoke about the event, “We love a good party here at AAFCA and we’re going to pull out all the stops to celebrate our winners and honorees. With the industry in flux for so many months, we’re really looking forward to finally getting to recognize and celebrate these incredible talents.”
The awards will be given out for “outstanding achievements in television and streaming,” and titles such as Legacy, Impact, Legend and Inclusion will be handed out to the influential winners. Some of the big names being honored include Quinta Brunson, Jessica Williams, Marla Gibbs and Jennifer Hudson.
The organization was founded in 2003 and is made up of Black film critics across the world who review both movies and television that emphasize the ubiquity of the Black experience in different places. AAFCA is also celebrating the winners with an extravagant luncheon and will be recognizing the television shows “P-Valley,” “Abbott Elementary,” “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” “Shrinking,” “Shooting Stars,” and others.
The event was postponed due to the recent writers strike from August 27th, but the AAFCA is excited to have a new date set in place. This is a unique opportunity to appreciate the stars who tell the stories of different avenues of the “Black Diaspora.”
The AAFCA Television Honors marks another successful year of celebrating Black excellence in television. We look forward to seeing the icons and rising stars that will be honored at this event.
