Madikeri, August 8; A torchlight procession for Akhand Bharat Sankalpa Yatra was held in Madikeri, the district headquarters, as part of the Independence Day.
The torchlight procession organized under the auspices of the Kodagu District Hindu Jagran Vedike was inaugurated in the evening with a puja at the Sri Chowdeshwari Temple in Mahadevpet. Pediatrician Dr. May. Kushwant Kozhibailu inaugurated the procession.
Women carrying the national flag, the Bhagwadhwaj and the panjan marched in the forefront of the procession, while hundreds of men and youth followed suit.
With the resolve to reunite the divided India, the chants of Bharat Mata, Go Mata, Ganga Mata, Kaveri Mata rang out along the route.
The procession, which started from Mahadevpet, passed through Indira Gandhi Circle, Old Private Bus Stand, May. Mangerira Muthanna Circle, J. Thimmaiah Circle and ended at Parli Kodava Samaj.

Tight security
A tight police security arrangement was made to ensure that no untoward incident took place during the Sakalpa Yatra. A large number of police personnel, led by DySP Suraj and Circle Inspector Raju, participated in the security operation.
