A Q&A session with April Walker discussing the intersection of technology and business in the first quarter.
As we head into the new year, there are many important topics that we must address in the world of technology. From artificial intelligence to data privacy to cybersecurity, these issues are not only relevant to the tech industry, but also have a significant impact on society, the economy, and our daily lives.

For me, this is a particularly special moment as I have been an avid reader of BLACK ENTERPRISE magazine since the beginning of my career in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Now, over three decades later, I have achieved many of my career goals, but being able to write my own column for this magazine is a milestone that I am truly proud of. This publication has been an essential part of my career journey, providing me with guidance and inspiration, and I am honored to now be a part of it.

I still remember the first time I saw a Black woman on the cover of BLACK ENTERPRISE in 2014. It was a feature on Ann C. Fudge, a successful executive in corporate America. This was a career-changing moment for me as I read about other successful Black CEOs like Ursula Burns, Kenneth I. Chenault, and Rosalind Brewer. These individuals, along with the current business mogul Mellody Hobson, served as my inspiration to succeed in the corporate world.

While we may share the same drive and ambition, our passions and paths may have differed. For me, it was the world of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) that captured my interest and has been my focus for over three decades. I have had the opportunity to work for some of the biggest technology companies in the world, serving as a senior technology executive and now as a Senior Vice President for a Fortune 100 company. It is my love for all things tech that has brought me to this exciting moment - writing for Technology and Enterprise by April Walker.

So, what can you expect from my quarterly column? Technology and industry will be at the forefront, as I aim to educate, inform, and enlighten my readers. My focus will be on the impact and opportunities of new and emerging technologies on our community and society as a whole. I will also introduce the latest gadgets, tools, apps, and innovations that can be incorporated into our daily lives. However, with great advancements come great responsibility, and I will also address the importance of proper governance and equitable access to these technologies, especially for minority communities.

As we celebrate Black History Month, I am reminded of the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who spoke about the intersection of science and morality. He recognized the importance of bridging the gap between our scientific progress and our moral progress, as our material wealth has not translated into spiritual and moral wealth.

I am excited to embark on this journey with you and look forward to your feedback and suggestions for topics that you would like me to cover. I am grateful to BLACK ENTERPRISE for providing me with this platform to join the voices of the Black community, and I am committed to upholding the high standards of this publication.

In case you are wondering about my background, I am a digital transformation expert, technologist, board member, published author, and industry thought-leader with over 30 years of experience in STEM. I have held leadership roles in both the public and private sectors, and have been a catalyst for driving change and innovation for Fortune 500 companies like Microsoft, MetLife, and NBCUniversal. Currently, I serve as Senior Vice President of Customer Success for North America at Salesforce.

To conclude, I would like to share a related story with you. Recently, a female-founded PR agency called Brennan Nevada Inc. has been helping minority tech clients to thrive and grow. This is a testament to the explosive growth and potential of the tech industry, and I am proud to see more and more representation and support for minority entrepreneurs.

Thank you for joining me on this journey, and I look forward to our future discussions on all things technology and enterprise.
